THE PROBLEM
10.7% of youth in NY from ages 10 to 17 have obesity 13.4% among high school students According CDC, 1 in 5 U.S. children experience mental, emotional, and behavioral disorder Research shows that extracurricular participation improves academic performance, builds soft skills such as leadership and self-discipline, and reduces risky behaviors such as drug and alcohol use.
Three Solutions
Empowering youth to make healthy choices and improve physical fitness. Physical activity helps develop healthy bones, joints, muscles and fend off obesity. Coaches will have the opportunity to emphasize making healthy choices in life by following habits like eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising.
Helping young people develop life skills. Setting attainable goals, overcoming challenges, learning techniques to manage thoughts and emotions – these are skills youth can learn through sports, but more importantly, can apply to other areas of life.
Helping young people develop core values. Our coaches guide youth to understand and develop core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, and perseverance.
